Since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and its national broadcast on PBS’ P.O.V. series, Brother Outsider has introduced millions of viewers around the world to the life and work of Bayard Rustin—a visionary strategist and activist who has been called “the unknown hero” of the civil rights movement.

Brother Outsider premiered on MTV’s LOGO network in 2008 and will continue to be broadcast regularly as part of LOGO’s “Real Momentum” series. Visit LogoOnline.com for more information on upcoming broadcasts.

The home video DVD of BROTHER OUTSIDER is now available for purchase in our online store. Meanwhile, the Rustin team is working on creating a DVD with expanded features.

We continue to raise money for our outreach efforts, with the aim of bringing Bayard Rustin's vision of a better world to new audiences, including African American youth in the South, LGBT audiences, and communities around the world.

The world lost a great American on February 1, 2008, with the death of longtime anti-war activist Ralph DiGia. Click here to read a memorial tribute.

We started this project more than ten years ago, in 1997; we continue to learn about peace, nonviolence, racial justice, LGBT equality and activism today, through the example of Bayard Rustin. We hope learning about him through the film and this website inspires you, too.
