Since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and its national broadcast on PBS’ P.O.V. series, Brother Outsider has introduced millions of viewers around the world to the life and work of Bayard Rustin—a visionary strategist and activist who has been called “the unknown hero” of the civil rights movement.
UPCOMING SCREENING: Brother Outsider will be shown on Wednesday, June 24, as part of the Homo Harlem film retrospective at the Maysles Cinema, 343 Lenox Avenue in New York City. The 7 p.m. screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Walter Naegle, Rustin’s life partner; filmmaker Bennett Singer; historian Adam Green; Rustin’s colleague and Little Rock Nine member Ernest Green; and others.
